February is a Special Month for Romance

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Sometimes the month of February can be hard to endure. The cold that started in November seeps into our bones so thoroughly that it is hard to remember what warmth feels like. We ache for the sun to stay longer in the sky, and to provide more than just light. We need a little something special to make us feel better.

We have just the thing for you at our Tayloville Il lodging. Extend the romance of Valentine’s Day throughout the month of February. Plan now to combat the blues with a romantic getaway to our Central Illinois lodging with your sweetie or spouse.

You can be cozy during February. You may cuddle together in front of a fireplace in our lovely inn, and share a soak in your private whirlpool bath. Let us cook delicious breakfasts for you, and sit back and enjoy complimentary wine, beer, cheese and fruit in our parlor each evening. Meet other guests and make new friends, or simply enjoy each other.

There is a two night minimum during weekends in February – all the better to fully unwind.

New Year’s Eve at our Taylorville B&B

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

New Year’s Eve is a special time. It invites reflection about the past, and speculation over what the future might hold. At its best, New Year’s Eve is a time to enjoy the company of good friends and loved ones in a safe and pleasant environment.

Tasting

Taste champagne together with friends on New Year's Eve

Of course, New Year’s Eve can also be a bit stressful. Where to go? What to do? If you enjoy cocktails or champagne, who will drive?

The answer to all these questions can be found by staying New Year’s Eve at our Taylorville IL bed and breakfast. We are offering a New Year’s Special: bring three couples for two nights and your rooms will be half price for both nights. Fun, and economical, too!

Start your evening with a social hour at our Taylorville lodging, complete with wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and tasty cheese and fruit. Then choose from one of several good restaurants close to the inn. After dinner, settle in to a pleasant evening of conversation or games with your friends in the common area. Cozy up in front of a fire and reminisce. Taste champagne. Maybe watch a dvd together.

Since you’ll be staying two nights, there will be ample time to explore nearby Springfield or the surrounding countryside. And of course, you will be thrilled to awaken each morning to a delicious, home-made breakfast! So take the stress out of one holiday this year, and make it special, too. Could there be a better way to start the new year?

Lincoln's Home

Visit Lincoln's Home while staying at our Illinois inn

Fall is a super time for a getaway in Central Illinois. The weather is lovely, the crowds are thin, and there is plenty to do. We offer several specials at our Springfield area Bed and Breakfast – there is certainly one right for you.

We are still celebrating the bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln’s birthday, and Central Illinois is still THE place to be to honor Honest Abe. Book our Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Special, and head just a few miles up to Springfield to visit the Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum. Lincoln in Illinois, Photographs by Ron Schramm, is an excellent (and free) exhibit in the Presidential Library that runs through September 30. Traditional and non-commercial Lincoln statues are the subject of the photographs, and when gathered together they are an interesting lot. Illinois Stories, running through August 31, 2010, explores in depth the history of Lincoln’s home state.

Our Early Autumn Special encourages you to stay two or three nights in our Central Illinois inn. Visit Lincoln’s Home. Bring your bikes or walking shoes and plan to spend a day on the Lincoln Prairie Bike Trail. Bring your spouse and celebrate a honeymoon or anniversary. Or just bring a book, and plan to spend a couple of days being pampered and relaxing. We’ll feed you a tasty, wholesome breakfast each morning to energize you for the day ahead, no matter what you choose to do.

Illinois State Fair is in Full Swing

Monday, August 17th, 2009
The Fair! The Fair!

The Fair! The Fair!

It’s so much fun! Central Illinois really throws itself into the Illinois State Fair, which is in full swing right now near our Illinois bed and breakfast. To help encourage folks to attend, we are offering a State Fair Special: stay 2 nights while attending the fair, and get a 30% discount.

Has it been a long time since you attended the state fair? If so, we encourage you to break out of your rut and run there this year. Agriculture was an important part of Illinois’ history, and it remains an essential part of our economy today. Even if you are not a farmer, or not from Illinois, step out in support of the fine people who produce our food. While you are there, look for the 500 pounds of butter that have been, incredibly, turned into a sculpture.

In addition, it’s fun. There is live music every night, from classical to country. There are tractor pulls and demo derbies. Don your shoes for hours of ballroom dancing. Go to the high diving show with a human torch fire dive – how many times in your life will you have the chance to see that? At Ethnic Village you will find foods from all over the world, and entertainment to match. There is so much to do you will find yourself quoting Templeton from Charlotte’s Web “the fair is a smorgashborg!”

Bestpart? Seniors enter for free.

So come to the fair from now through August 23, and stay at our Central Illinois inn, just a few miles away.

So, You Want To Be An Innkeeper?

Monday, August 10th, 2009
Would you like to be innkeepers like us?

Would you like to be innkeepers like us?

We know that many of you have considered running your own bed and breakfast. It is indeed a great profession. We have truly enjoyed our fifteen years as innkeepers here at our 1892 Queen Anne Victorian mansion in Taylorville. What could be better if you enjoy cooking and like hosting people in your home? Yet we also understand that it is a big step, and a huge commitment to make if you’ve never done it.

With that in mind, we are offering a “SO YOU WANT TO BE AN INNKEEPER” special. Try out the dream for a couple of days. We won’t hand you the keys to our Taylorville Illinois inn or ask you to wash dishes, but we will sit down with you after breakfast and talk about the ins and outs of innkeeping. Stay 2 nights, and the second night will be half price.

We are approaching retirement age, and would love to pass off our beloved Central Illinois Bed and Breakfast to someone who has always wanted to run one. Our inn has had enviable growth over the past 15 years – it is a strong business and a great opportunity for a future innkeeper.

Please call to book this, and make an appointment with Joe and Myrna. The offer is good through November 30, 2009.

Great Specials at our Central Illinois Bed and Breakfast

Monday, August 3rd, 2009
Illinois State Fair

Stay with us during the Illinois State Fair

Isn’t it time you treated yourself to a getaway? With the spirit of summer fun in mind, we are offering a number of specials to entice you to travel to our Central Illinois bed and breakfast.

It is almost time for the Illinois State Fair at the state fair grounds in Springfield, less than 30 miles away from our Springfield area lodging. Between August 13 and August 23 we are offering two State Fair Specials: 20% off stays between Sunday and Thursday, and 30% off stays of two or more nights. These rooms have whirlpools to help relax aching feet after a day of walking around the fair.

Take advantage of our Late Summer Special, which includes Labor Day Weekend. If you stay two nights, the second night is free. If you stay three nights, the third night is free. Why not use these specials while in town for the Farm Progress Show, between August 31 and September 2.  The Farm Progress Show will be in Decatur, Illinois, less than 30 minutes from our Central Illinois bed and breakfast. It’s been happening since 1953, and is a great resource for anyone involved with agriculture, farming, and livestock. Be sure to check out Country Music Star Darryl Worley, who’ll be performing on September 2.

Bike the Lincoln Prairie Trail Special

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009
Bike the Lincoln Prairie Trail

Bike the Lincoln Prairie Trail

May is the perfect time to hop on your bike and go for a ride. The weather here in Taylorville is usually in the 60s or 70s at this time of year – just right for biking. The Lincoln Prairie Bike Trail is just 6 blocks from our Taylorville Illinois hotel; start here, and ride 15 miles to Pana on the paved old railroad bed. You’ll bike through lovely prairie land that is sprinkled with rivers and streams. The Market Street Inn will provide a sack lunch for you for your ride on one of the longest paved trails south of the Chicago area.

Once you arrive in the City of Pana, there are many things to do. Wander through the historic downtown and admire the lovely architecture that ranges from Victorian to Art Deco. Sit in a cafe and restore yourself with a cup of coffee. Visit the Coal Creek Pioneer Village, complete with restored log cabins original to the area.

We offer a “Bike the Lincoln Prairie Bike Trail” special at our bed and breakfast Illinois. There is a Weekend Package and a Weekday Package, both of which include a dinner gift certificate. Our generous breakfasts will energize you before your ride, and your private whirlpool tub will wash away any aches and pains aft your ride.
