New Year’s Eve at our Taylorville B&B

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

New Year’s Eve is a special time. It invites reflection about the past, and speculation over what the future might hold. At its best, New Year’s Eve is a time to enjoy the company of good friends and loved ones in a safe and pleasant environment.

Tasting

Taste champagne together with friends on New Year's Eve

Of course, New Year’s Eve can also be a bit stressful. Where to go? What to do? If you enjoy cocktails or champagne, who will drive?

The answer to all these questions can be found by staying New Year’s Eve at our Taylorville IL bed and breakfast. We are offering a New Year’s Special: bring three couples for two nights and your rooms will be half price for both nights. Fun, and economical, too!

Start your evening with a social hour at our Taylorville lodging, complete with wine, beer, non-alcoholic beverages, and tasty cheese and fruit. Then choose from one of several good restaurants close to the inn. After dinner, settle in to a pleasant evening of conversation or games with your friends in the common area. Cozy up in front of a fire and reminisce. Taste champagne. Maybe watch a dvd together.

Since you’ll be staying two nights, there will be ample time to explore nearby Springfield or the surrounding countryside. And of course, you will be thrilled to awaken each morning to a delicious, home-made breakfast! So take the stress out of one holiday this year, and make it special, too. Could there be a better way to start the new year?

Central Illinois B&B with whirlpool tubs & fireplaces

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Looking for a quick weekend away from it all? Are you looking for Lincoln and the perfect Springfield IL lodging? Springfield is home to the Lincoln Presidential museum and the capitol building of Illinois. Along with beautiful architecture and historic importance, the small community of Taylorville is only 30 minutes from Springfield, and has avoided being polluted with chain shopping and fast-food bonanzas.

The wonderful thing about coming to Lincolnland is our rich historical background. The Lincoln Presidential Library is the premier resource for Prairie State history and all things Illinois related. They also open the manuscripts, audiovisual and Lincoln collections by appointment.

The Hunt Club Suite

The Hunt Club Suite

The museum includes several different and special sections focusing on Lincoln and the world surrounding him. Some sections of the museum include: The Illinois Gallery, Ms.Lincoln’s Attic, “Journey One,” the pre-presidential years, “Journey Two” the White House years, the Treasures Gallery, Ask Mr. Lincoln & Ghosts of the Library.

We hope you will come and explore what is happening along our leg of the Lincoln Prairie Trail soon. There are 8 rooms in our main inn, on the second and third floors. Most of our rooms have whirlpool tubs and fireplaces. We also have a carriage house containing the Hunt Club suite. It has two fireplaces and a jacuzzi tub. We are the ideal location for your Illinois Weekend Getaways!

Lincoln Bicentennial: Springfield IL

Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

Lincoln once said, “To this place, and the kindness of its people, I owe everything.” He was speaking to the community of Springfield Illinois, where he made a home for himself and found his wife.

Today, much of what made Springfield a home to Lincoln is still here. His law office, which he ran with his partner William H. Herndon, is now on the registrar of historic places, and one can take a tour of the historic building. In the summertime, there is a costumed guide portraying Lincoln’s clerk.

Market Street Inn is near Springfield IL Lodging. We are approximately 29 miles from Springfield.

There are several other interesting historical Lincoln sites in Springfield. One can visit Lincoln’s home; the

Abe Lincolin's Home in Springfield IL

only home he ever owned, where he lived for 17 years before leaving for Washington D.C.

It was also here in Lincoln Hometown that Abe delivered his “House Divided” speech. It was during the Republican National Convention; only after that speech did the concept of a “divided House” become common terminology.

Lincoln addressed the people of Springfield at the train depot before leaving to take office in the White House. It was here that he spoke the kind words about his community members quoted at the top of this page. You can visit this Great Western Railroad Station, where Lincoln bid farewell to his friends and family to take on the greatest responsibility of his life.

And, of course, Lincoln’s tomb is also here in Springfield. After his assassination, his remains were returned to the town he loved so much, and great speeches to his unparalleled service were spoken. His tomb is a sizable 117-foot tower, and contains the bodies of his wife and three of four sons. The outside of the tomb features sculptures of Lincoln, and inside are many excepts from Lincoln’s speeches and famous words. It is a powerful place, and an essential part of any visit to Lincolnland.

The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum, an extraordinary new facility, opened just a few years ago.   It is open 7 days weekly w/ Wednesday being the late day.   One should allow approximately 4 hours for this tour.

I hope you will come to visit us, and Lincoln, soon. There is a wreath-laying ceremony at his tomb on February 12. Starting in June and throughout the summer there is a flag lowering ceremony every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the tomb.

A humble man, Lincoln remains alive because what he did with his life affects us all today. Come and visit the home of this American hero.
