November 5, Saturday, Persimmon Fest at the Christian County Historical Society. Come see the original court house where Abraham Lincoln practiced law. This is but one of two or three persimmon festivals found in the United States. While persimmons are consumed almost daily in countries such as Japan, they seem to have become shuffled into the background in the U.S. Here is an opportunity to purchase persimmon pulp, taste baked goods made from persimmon pulp and enjoy the other events on the agenda.

One of the premier stops this year will be the renovated Baptist Church, now known as The Pillars Events Center, 303 East Market Street, located diagonally across the street from the Market Street Inn Bed and Breakfast. This former Baptist Church has been converted into a multi-use events center for dinners, weddings, receptions and other gatherings. Seating will be 240 on the main floor with an additional 60 on the mezzanine. There will be two bars in the former sanctuary. Central Illinois Offerings

Central Illinois is loaded with history and things to do. Make us your headquarters while visiting the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, IL, just 29 miles away from Taylorville. Lincoln’s Home is on the National Registry of Historic Places as well as being part of the National Park Service. Plan to stay 3 nights so you have time to visit the Dana-Thomas House, a Frank Lloyd Wright designed and built museum in Springfield, open Wednesday-Sunday.

Arpeggio Winery, just south of Assumption and 17 miles away. http://www.arpeggiowines.com

Visiting Decatur, IL, just 29 miles from Taylorville:
• The Wabash Depot Antique Mall holds some real interest for collectors
• the Chevrolet Hall of Fame Museum has about 55 Corvettes, Camaro’s and other Chevys for viewing
• the James Millikin Homestead is a beautifully restored turn of the century building
• the Children’s Museum of Illinois
• Millikin University

Guests have been telling us that on-line inquiries re. our availability show “no availability” Due to recent “innovations” on the internet, we advise to always call your innkeeper direct to make your bookings. If you go to an inn’s site and try to book online and are told your dates are not available, you may be getting false information from an “online travel agent” regarding the inn’s actual availability. (the motive is to redirect bookings where commissions can be earned by on-line travel agents). Furthermore, there are NO deals available through “online travel agents” but merely a hefty commission charged to the innkeeper. Your innkeeper is truly your best friend in this matter. There are three other Market Street Inns, so make sure that you have the one in Taylorville, Illinois. (not Indiana, Michigan or North Carolina).

Our Special Invitation to you
